Federal union

In politics, a federal union is any organization of states or other entities that unite under a federalist system. Usually a federal union will action jointly in matters of defense and foreign relations, with individual states having independence in local matters. Current examples of federal unions include the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Canada, India and Australia. Historical examples of federal unions include the Soviet Union and the Federal Republic of Central America, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and others.
